approach:

Since John Lyall Architects was established in 1991, the practice has gained a reputation for successful urban regeneration schemes in Leeds, Cardiff Bay, Norwich and Ipswich. Such mixed-use schemes have generated expertise in housing, retail and cultural projects.

Infrastructure projects and award-winning rail stations have added to the varied workload over the past few years. While the reputation is mainly based on new contemporary architecture, the practice has also won many plaudits for the adaptation of historic listed buildings.

More recently, education projects are increasingly keeping the office very busy. The practice is proud of the sheer variety of projects which it attracts and undertakes. The architects are multi-faceted in their skills and motivated by the exciting mixture of work.

There is never a formulaic or repeated response to a new project which is always approached in a fresh way. This process is based in every case in taking the time at the very beginning in the understanding the clients and their brief, and immersion in the qualities and context of the site.

John Lyall personally leads this approach with his two experienced associates, Chris Bills and Neil Young. The three maintain a close involvement from beginning to end with both the scheme and the client. John Lyall Architects is proud to have engaged a talented and accomplished group of project architects and assistants, which are deployed according to the needs of each scheme.
